Botanical Beauty
Why what we apply on our skin matters?
Long before the discovery of modern chemistry, plants and herbs were the world's medicines, both internally and externally. In many parts of the world they still are.
Even though we don’t often think about it, our skin eats. In fact, unlike the food we chew and swallow, which is broken down in the stomach before it is absorbed, skincare applied to the skin bypass the digestive process and go directly into the bloodstream.
This is why it is as important to know the ingredients of what you apply externally as it is to know the ingredients of your diet.
The healing properties of plants
Plants contain all the nutritive properties necessary to provide external relief from skin imbalances and to slow down the ageing process. They can be used in various ways to nourish, rejuvenate, protect, heal and cleanse the skin, and in different forms such as cold-pressed oils, liquid extracts, dry leaves and powders, hydrosol waters, teas and fresh cut flowers and leaves.
Botanical oils applied on the skin is a controversial topic in the beauty world with many believing they can lead to breakouts, excessive oil production, and clogged pores. However, this belief is based on a misunderstanding of the complex nature of oils and their interactions with the skin. The right oils and oil combinations actually have a regulating effect on our skin’s natural oil production. Plant based oils are also rich in vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids that are vital for optimal skin health.
The farming and extraction method of botanical oils play a part in how nutritious they are for your skin and health. We recommend using organic and cold-pressed plant oils that have been extracted without the use of heat or harmful chemicals.
The essence of a plant
A plant’s essence, which we experience both as its scent and taste is the substance of the plant’s immune system to kill bacteria, prevent infection, and even repel predators. This active ingredient that is called essential oil, is the most concentrated extracted form of the plant. As the source of the the plant’s own immunity, they contain powerful healing properties for the plants as well as enhancing our immunity when used in skincare.
Many of them are antiseptic and antibacterial. Some are proving helpful for viral infections by boosting immune function and others have the potential to stimulate healthy cell renewal and growth. They also have shown to regulate and restore mental balance. Essential oils have properties that address all aspects of our health; physical, mental and emotional.
This is why ingredients matter, and why we have chosen to only use ethically sourced plant oils, extracts and essential oils, to give you a healthy skin ritual.
